SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT February, 2005 Dear colleague, It is a pleasure to welcome you as a participant in the Fourth International Research Forum on Statistical Reasoning, Thinking, and Literacy (SRTL-4) to be held in New Zealand from July 2 to July 7, 2005. The Department of Statistics, the University of Auckland will host the Forum and join the SRTL-4 Advisory Committee in extending a hearty welcome. In addition, the Forum is sponsored by the Key College Press (USA), The American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Statistical Education, and the Department of Statistics, The University of Auckland. Researchers in Statistics Education from around the world have been invited to share their work, discuss important issues, and initiate collaborative projects. With emphasis on Reasoning about Distribution, an interesting range and diversity of research presentations and discussions have been planned and we all look forward to a stimulating and enriching gathering. One outcome of the Forum will be a publication of a special issue of the Statistics Education Research Journal (SERJ) on reasoning about distribution. There will be an open call for papers and presenters at this Forum will be invited to submit a paper. Another outcome of the Forum will be publication of a CD proceedings for participants. The structure of the scientific program will be a mixture of formal and informal sessions, small group and whole group discussions, and the opportunity for extensive analysis of video-taped research data. There will also be a poster session for exhibiting current research of participants on additional topics related to statistics education. All participants, presenters and discussants, are asked to submit a completed registration form by May 15, 2005. Payment, without an increased fee, is also due by May 15, 2005. Presenters are requested to submit a paper on their presentation topic by May 1, 2005 and poster title and abstract are due May 15, 2005.
